News of 2024’s Edelstein Ink Of The Year broke in February. For only the second time in its history, Pelikan released an ink with a shimmer effect and Golden Lapis has been well received, described as both beautiful and forgiving. The fervor surrounding the ink may have only been eclipsed by the anticipation for the inevitable matching fountain pen. Today, we learned of the Pelikan M200 Golden Lapis special edition demonstrator and it does not disappoint. Pelikan has been releasing pens to match their Ink Of The Year since 2015. Golden Lapis is the tenth pen in the series and only the third M200. The majority of pens released to date have been from the M205 line, characterized by chromium plated trim instead of gold. While the Edelstein series of fountain pens has not always had a consistent track record, Golden Lapis seems like it will be a major star, joining the likes of the M205 Amethyst (2015), M205 Aquamarine (2016), M205 Olivine (2018), and M205 Star Ruby (2019). Common to all the aforementioned pens is the fact that they are demonstrators. Where the Golden Lapis stands out from the pack is in the fact that it marks only the fourth instance of a Pelikan demonstrator incorporating a shimmering finish into its resin. Read on to learn whether or not this one should be on your wish list.

News: M1000 Maki-e Ivy and Komon
While we are all anxiously awaiting news of this year’s Pelikan Hubs event to surface, Pelikan surprised us late last evening with a different type of announcement. With the M1000 Renaissance Brown hitting store shelves any day now, Pelikan plans to follow that highly anticipated launch with another M1000, this one being the latest in their line of Maki-e pens. Introducing the M1000 Maki-e Ivy and Komon limited edition fountain pen. The design draws from the Japanese culture and depicts an autumnal scene. This new model follows up to last year’s well received Maki-e Dragon. As is the custom with these hand painted pens, only 123 pieces will be available worldwide. Keep reading to learn all about Pelikan’s newest Maki-e masterpiece.

Pelikan regularly releases limited edition models based on the M10xx chassis, but these are usually Maki-e or Raden models made in ultra limited production runs with large price tags. The last standard M10xx release was the M1005 Stresemann in 2019. After a long wait, Pelikan has answered the pent up demand with the upcoming M1000 Renaissance Brown. If that name sounds familiar, that is because Pelikan first employed the finish on the M800 Renaissance Brown that was released in 2017. Pelikan’s advertisements declare, “Brace yourselves for the comeback of a classic!” The original M800 model has been well regarded over the years following its release. The M1000 Renaissance Brown is set to debut in May 2024. If that has your interest peaked, read on to find out all of the details.

While a good portion of the country is grappling with below freezing temperatures, Pelikan brings the heat with the first official fountain pen announcement of 2024. Prior to today, the only forthcoming release publicly announced was the M200 Copper Rose Gold Special Edition, a model whose Fall 2023 release was delayed until the Spring of 2024. We now have yet another pen being added to the Classic line, the M200 Orange Delight Special Edition tentatively launching in Febuary. This is a model that breaks the typical Pelikan mold and I’m here for it. First off, you can literally count on one hand how many orange pens have been released by the company in the last several years. Off the top of my head, I can recall the M320 Orange Marbled (2004), M600 Vibrant Orange (2018), M640 Indian Summer (2009), and M800 Burnt Orange (2015). That makes the Orange Delight the newest member of a rather exclusive club. Pelikan is nothing if not a creature of habit. Time and again, we’ve seen the well-worn trope of “same pen, different color.” By creating what appears to be a hybrid type of demonstrator, the company expands their horizons and the result is certainly an attractive new bird. Vendors are taking pre-orders now. Continue reading below to learn all that we know about Pelikan’s newest Classic series fountain pen.

On the occasion of the 2023 Pelikan Hubs event which came and went just last evening, Pelikan dropped yet another new release and guess what, it’s due out in October. That makes this supersized Maki-e model the fifth release tentatively scheduled for the autumn month. As I recently discussed, it will share space on the calendar with the M600 Glauco Cambon, M600 Red-White, M205 Rose Quartz, and M200 Copper Rose Gold. While the new M1000 Maki-e Dragon will surely add to the surfeit of fall releases, this one shouldn’t be too burdensome as it will be out of reach for most. The new M1000 Maki-e Dragon limited edition follows the 2022 models Snow, Moon, and Flowers as well as the Phoenix. Available only in ultra-limited quantities, the Dragon is expected to command a price commensurate with its grand stature. It strikes me as interesting, and perhaps it’s just a coincidence, that the Dragon follows the Phoenix since Pelikan has already included both creatures on a single past release several years ago. Some of you may recall 2005’s M1000 Maki-e Dragon & Phoenix which was made in a run of just 88 pens. September is nearing an end and we have yet to see retailers receive stock of the M205 Rose Quartz which was slated for release this month meaning pre-orders remain unfulfilled. It looks like Pelikan has postponed the Rose Quartz until October in order to remediate an undisclosed issue which was discovered late in the game. Sources suggest that mid to late October may be a more realistic timeline which means that the M205 Rose Quartz is going to bump up against the M600 Glauco Cambon and the M600 Red-White. Perhaps news of the next new model out of Hannover might serve as a little salve for that wound but it also adds to the developing glut of fall releases. Pelikan has already delivered the M200 Pastel-Blue this year and the M205 Rose Quartz Special Edition is in the wings which is why yet another release in the Classic line comes as a bit of a surprise, but here we are. News broke today of the upcoming M200 Copper Rose Gold Special Edition. It is understandable if you’re getting Gold-Marbled vibes but there is a little more nuance to be found here. Specifically, the use of rose gold is something that is rarely seen on a Pelikan, but it is not without precedent. The next M200 to grace the Classic line is tentatively penciled in for an October launch and retailers should be taking pre-orders now. Read on to learn all about Pelikan’s newest Classic series fountain pen.

Pelikan has been on fire this August, dropping news of not one, not two, but three new releases. Earlier this month, we learned of the M600 Glauco Cambon, a pen that breaks new ground with a spirit that feels a lot like the Pelikan of old. Before we even had a chance to fully wrap our minds around that release, Pelikan announced the much anticipated M205 Rose Quartz. While that would have been more than enough to temporarily slake our thirst for new models, Pelikan drops yet another release just as the month of August comes to a close. Earlier today, the company announced the forthcoming Souverän M600 Red-White fountain pen, conspicuously just in time for their upcoming 185th Anniversary celebration this Saturday. Pelikan has been bringing bold, bright colors married with white resin to the M6xx line since 2012. Taking into account the tortoise releases over the past few years, that makes the mid-sized M6xx line arguably one of the brand’s most exciting at the moment. In case you need a refresher, white resin M6xxs have included the M600 Tortoiseshell White (2012), M600 Pink (2015), M605 White Transparent (2017), M600 Turquoise-White (2018), M600 Violet-White (2019), and the M605 Green-White (2021). Pushing past the pastels, the new M600 Red-White will come in a bold and striking shade arranged in stripes made of cellulose acetate accented by white resin and gold plated furniture. While this model may frustrate those longing for a new M800 or even M1000, the bold colors and striking looks of this one will likely have it flying off store shelves. Worldwide availability is expected starting in mid-October of this year, available only while supplies last. Read on to learn all about the newest Souverän to join the family.

It is the summer of Barbie and pink is in the air. Since the moment the new Edelstein Rose Quartz ink was announced, talk of a matching pen took flight. To say expectations were high for this one would be quite the understatement. Perhaps even Warner Brothers took note, colluding with Pelikan to cash in on some of the pink fervor. While I say that tongue in cheek, I’m very serious about being blindsided just 48 hours ago when Pelikan announced yet another new model, the first to grace their freshly minted Art Collection, the Glacuo Cambon M600. While still reeling from that news, Pelikan comes in for the body blow with today’s announcement of the upcoming Pelikan M205 Rose Quartz. The practice of marrying a matching fountain pen to their annual Edelstein Ink Of The Year release has been a tradition that goes all the way back to 2015, making the Rose Quartz the ninth such pairing to make an appearance. Six of the prior releases have been M205s whereas only two were M200s, the two being distinguished only by their trim. Before I move on, it’s worth recapping just what we’ve been given to date. Past models have included the M205 Amethyst (2015), M205 Aquamarine (2016), M200 Smoky Quartz (2017), M205 Olivine (2018), M205 Star Ruby (2019), M205 Moonstone (2020), M200 Golden Beryl (2021), and M205 Apatite (2022). Despite every model mentioned being a demonstrator, Pelikan used the line to experiment some, bringing out their first glitter impregnated finishes. The Rose Quartz appears to have none of that, relying instead on its delicate pink features to capture the eye. Keep reading to learn all about this new model’s secrets.
