European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a European Union (EU) law that took effect on May 25, 2018.  The goal of the GDPR is to give EU citizens control over their personal data.  If you are located in certain countries, including those that fall under the scope of the GDPR (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and the UK.), data protection laws give you rights with respect to your personal data, subject to any exemptions provided by the law, including the rights to:

  • Request access to your personal data;
  • Request correction or deletion of your personal data;
  • Object to our use and processing of your personal data;
  • Request that we limit our use and processing of your personal data; and
  • Request portability of your personal data.

You can usually access, correct, or delete your personal data using your account settings and tools that the WordPress platform offers.  If you are unable to do that or you would like to contact us about one of the other rights, please use the Contact Form to reach us.

EU individuals also have the right to make a complaint to a government supervisory authority.

California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)

The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) is a data privacy law that applies to certain businesses which collect personal information from California residents. The new law went into effect on January 1, 2020.  The goal of the CCPA is to give California residents control over their personal data, much like the GDPR does for EU citizens.  According to the law, The Pelikan’s Perch does not meet the requirements and is therefore not required to comply.  That said, this site and WordPress.com strive to be GDPR and CCPA compliant.  You can usually access, correct, or delete your personal data using your account settings and tools that the WordPress platform offers should you so desire.
