Many of my long-time readers have noticed fewer posts from me in recent months. This is largely due to burnout and chronic fatigue, making it hard for me to find time for writing. I obviously dedicate my remaining time to my family, but I haven’t abandoned the blog. My interest in this community and in Pelikan remains strong, even if I can’t write as much right now as I would like. Still, I remain committed to my mission to bring you all of the Pelikan news, reviews, and in-depth articles that I can. September 1st passed with little fanfare but it marked the tenth anniversary of The Perch. There was no celebration, just the satisfaction of a decade of connecting others with this brand. To celebrate this milestone birthday, I would once again like to host a contest where one lucky winner will receive a 2024 Pelikan M200 Golden Lapis fountain pen and ink gift set purchased from Fritz Schimpf, a top-notch fountain pen retailer out of Germany. Read on for details about how to enter the contest.

Review: M200 Golden Lapis (2024)
The Perch is back after a short break, and I have a lot to explore in the coming months. I’ll start with a series of reviews, beginning with the M200 Golden Lapis fountain pen. The M2xx line has had some design and material inconsistencies over the years, but I’m pleased to say the Golden Lapis resolves those issues, presenting itself as one of the most cohesive releases yet. Launched in 2015, Golden Lapis is the tenth special edition fountain pen inspired by Pelikan’s Edelstein Ink Of The Year and only the third M200 in this collection, alongside the Smoky Quartz (2017) and Golden Beryl (2021). The M200 line features gold-plated trim, unlike the silver colored chromium trim of the M205. The Golden Lapis is the fourth model to incorporate a shimmer effect within the resin, the others being the M205 Star Ruby (2019), the M205 Moonstone (2020), and the M200 Golden Beryl (2021). Keep reading to discover more about this stunning pen.
Continue readingNews: M200 Golden Lapis Special Edition Demonstrator
News of 2024’s Edelstein Ink Of The Year broke in February. For only the second time in its history, Pelikan released an ink with a shimmer effect and Golden Lapis has been well received, described as both beautiful and forgiving. The fervor surrounding the ink may have only been eclipsed by the anticipation for the inevitable matching fountain pen. Today, we learned of the Pelikan M200 Golden Lapis special edition demonstrator and it does not disappoint. Pelikan has been releasing pens to match their Ink Of The Year since 2015. Golden Lapis is the tenth pen in the series and only the third M200. The majority of pens released to date have been from the M205 line, characterized by chromium plated trim instead of gold. While the Edelstein series of fountain pens has not always had a consistent track record, Golden Lapis seems like it will be a major star, joining the likes of the M205 Amethyst (2015), M205 Aquamarine (2016), M205 Olivine (2018), and M205 Star Ruby (2019). Common to all the aforementioned pens is the fact that they are demonstrators. Where the Golden Lapis stands out from the pack is in the fact that it marks only the fourth instance of a Pelikan demonstrator incorporating a shimmering finish into its resin. Read on to learn whether or not this one should be on your wish list.

The annual announcement detailing Pelikan’s newest Edelstein ink has become one of the more anticipated tidbits of news each year. This is in part due to the fact that we all love a good ink, but it is also because the revelation heralds a future M2xx release if history is to be any guide. Last evening, news broke of the next limited edition Edelstein Ink Of The Year and the newest hue for 2024 will be Golden Lapis. With it, Pelikan revisits the shimmer effect that we last saw with 2021’s Golden Beryl, making it just the second ink in Pelikan’s line-up to do so. Like its namesake gemstone, Golden Lapis takes a base of vibrant blue and adds a golden shimmer. This brand new release will be the thirteenth special edition gemstone inspired ink to grace the Edelstein line along with a small selection of standard bearers. Limited editions that have come before include Turmaline (2012), Amber (2013), Garnet (2014), Amethyst (2015), Aquamarine (2016), Smoky Quartz (2017), Olivine (2018), Star Ruby (2019), Moonstone (2020), Golden Beryl (2021), Apatite (2022), and Rose Quartz (2023). Pelikan, at least at the outset, intends to produce this ink for one year therefore it will only be available for a limited time and while supplies last.  Golden Lapis is slated for a March 2024 release, just in time for the Spring.
