The year started quietly, with Pelikan saving most of their major releases for the fall season. After only recently learning about the M800 Cream Blue and the M910 White Toledo, news has emerged about a third model: the Pelikan Souverän M1000 Raden Black Infinity Limited Edition. This pen follows last year’s Raden Red Infinity, featuring a similar design but in a different color. In the past decade, oversized Raden models have included the Starlight (2014), Sunrise (2016), Green Ray (2020), White Ray (2021), and Red Infinity (2023). Known for their shimmering abalone shell decorations, each pen is crafted and signed by hand. Only 400 pieces will be available worldwide for an October release. Keep reading to learn more about this latest Raden model.

News: Toledo M910 White Fountain Pen
Last evening, fine writing enthusiasts were excited to see the M800 Cream Blue, Pelikan’s first original M800 since 2019. In a surprising move, Pelikan’s vendors today announced a second new model coming out this fall, the M910 White, introducing a new color to the old Toledo design. The Toledo first appeared in 1931 as the 111T and the concept was revived in 1991/92 as the M900/M910 model lines. The Toledo is considered a grail pen by many with an appearance so alluring that it has seen few variations over the years. The newest version features white resin and a sterling silver sleeve in the traditional Damascene style. It will launch in October and be available for a limited time only. Keep reading to discover more about this new addition to Pelikan’s lineup.

In the pre-COVID era, new M8xx releases seemingly came out every few months, serving Pelikan well as a reliable, workhorse platform. However, supply chain issues during the pandemic led to a decrease in M8xx releases and a pivot to other model lines. The most recent M800 models were the Green Demonstrator (2023), the 40th Anniversary LE (2022), and the Black-Red (2022). With only two rehashes and an anniversary model that didn’t quite hit the mark, there was little to excite. Now, Pelikan has unveiled the M800 Cream Blue special edition fountain pen, set to launch in October, which could breathe new life into the M8xx line. Read on for more details about this new special edition.

Just yesterday, I reported news of the anxiously awaited M200 Golden Lapis. In a surprising move late last evening, we were given our first glimpse of a second new model, also due to drop in September. The M670 Warm Grey is an M6xx sized pen leading a new model designation with a fresh look and some unique elements never before seen on a Souverän. For those who don’t care for demonstrators or lament the smaller size of the M2xx series, this may be just the alternative that you’ve been waiting for. Pelikan’s M6xx releases since 2012 have largely focused on bold, bright colors married with white resin. The M670 features grey tones and PVD coated trim imparting a unique, black appearance. The look recalls the white M100 from the late 80s/early 90s, affectionately referred to as the “Stromtrooper.” While it’s tempting to attribute a fresh design to the influence of new ownership, it is important to remember that models like this often spend months to years in the development pipeline before materializing. Regardless of whose fingerprints are on this one, it is always refreshing to see Pelikan breaking out of its shell and trying something new. Keep reading to learn whether or not this is the Souverän for you.

News of 2024’s Edelstein Ink Of The Year broke in February. For only the second time in its history, Pelikan released an ink with a shimmer effect and Golden Lapis has been well received, described as both beautiful and forgiving. The fervor surrounding the ink may have only been eclipsed by the anticipation for the inevitable matching fountain pen. Today, we learned of the Pelikan M200 Golden Lapis special edition demonstrator and it does not disappoint. Pelikan has been releasing pens to match their Ink Of The Year since 2015. Golden Lapis is the tenth pen in the series and only the third M200. The majority of pens released to date have been from the M205 line, characterized by chromium plated trim instead of gold. While the Edelstein series of fountain pens has not always had a consistent track record, Golden Lapis seems like it will be a major star, joining the likes of the M205 Amethyst (2015), M205 Aquamarine (2016), M205 Olivine (2018), and M205 Star Ruby (2019). Common to all the aforementioned pens is the fact that they are demonstrators. Where the Golden Lapis stands out from the pack is in the fact that it marks only the fourth instance of a Pelikan demonstrator incorporating a shimmering finish into its resin. Read on to learn whether or not this one should be on your wish list.

It’s been a little over a year since Pelikan International announced the sale of its stationery division to the French-based Hamelin stationery group. The transaction was completed on December 13th, marking the transition of Pelikan’s fine writing division to new management. Mergers and acquisitions often lead to personnel changes, with many positions becoming redundant. This can result in reassignments or layoffs for affected employees. While the past six months have appeared to be business as usual under the new ownership, we are starting to see the moves Hamelin plans to make in order to streamline its business model. Today, it was announced that Hamelin will take over the distribution of the Pelikan brand starting on January 1, 2025, and as a result, the sales and distribution locations in Hannover and Falkensee under Pelikan Vertriebsgesellschaft (PVG) will be closed.

Perhaps one of the most anticipated events in the world of fine writing each year is the Pelikan Hubs. It’s a rare opportunity for people who love pens, inks, and paper to come together and share their passion. Since it started in 2014, the event has grown to include roughly 220 cities in 47 countries. It hasn’t all been smooth sailing, however. The COVID-19 pandemic caused a two-year hiatus, and there were concerns about the event’s future when Pelikan International sold the stationery division to the French owned Hamelin group. Those concerns were for nought it seems as it’s been confirmed that Pelikan Hubs 2024 will go ahead as usual. The banner for this year’s event showcases the 2024 Edelstein Ink Of The Year, Golden Lapis, which is usually a highlight at these gatherings. Pelikan values feedback from attendees, and it seems that some welcome adjustments have been made to the registration process. Keep reading to find out how you can register yourself and your city for this year’s event.
