Pelikan Hubs 2015 – Philadelphia: A Recap

Pelikan Hubs 2015 Custom Philadelphia LogoSeptember 25th has passed and in its wake the Pelikan Hubs event has come and gone.  The second annual Pelikan Hubs occurred in 72 cities divided amongst 29 countries.  I had the privilege of being the Hub master for the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA location.  This year, Philadelphia faced a unique challenge owing to the traffic restrictions put into place with the Pope’s arrival into town.  With that in mind, the venue had to be carefully selected.  Ultimately, I decided to host the event at Goat Hollow in the Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia.  Goat Hollow is an American brassiere with a great selection of hand crafted beers and a menu that has plenty to offer provided in heaping portions.  It’s a nice neighborhood location with a wonderful private room upstairs that served to host our group.  For a reasonable fee, we were provided our own server, Collin, who did an excellent job fulfilling our orders.  Food and drink were enjoyed by all and while I can’t speak for the whole menu, the poutine was exceptional.

News: Pelikan Hubs Show Tremendous Growth

Pelikan Hubs 2015 LogoRegistration for Pelikan’s 2015 Hubs event has come to a close and we are just about a month and a half away from the big day.  Thanks to the dedication of the team at Pelikan and the enthusiasm of my fellow fountain pen devotees, this years event looks to have grown tremendously.  Last year’s June 13th affair was the first of its kind.  Twenty-five countries hosted Hubs in 58 different cities with a total of about 900 participants.  This year, twenty-nine countries will host 72 different Hubs with an expected 1400 total participants.  That’s a 56% increase in attendance over last year.  Many Hubs had only a few attendees and this year we’ll see an average of 19 participants per Hub.  This is all very exciting news.  Hub masters have received the names of their attendees and emails should be going out soon to inform every one of their local event’s details.  As head of the Philadelphia Hub, I understand the amount of work it takes to arrange an event with this magnitude of attendance and salute all of the Hub masters out there doing their level best to put on a great event at an appropriate venue.  I look forward to seeing my group in person in September and following along with the exploits of all of the groups on social media via the hashtag #PelikanHubs.

News: Hub Locations Announced

Hubs BannerThe June 30th deadline for hub master applications came today and newly minted hub masters across the world were notified of their selection via email.  Pelikan also wasted no time in announcing the chosen locations for this year’s event.  Several of the selected cities are the same as last year but there are also many new locations which will give some of those who could not participate previously an opportunity to join in the fun.  Pelikan Hubs 2015 will include 69 cities spanning 27 countries with 19 cities represented that were not included last year.  In case you have forgotten or are unaware, this year’s gathering will take place on September 25, 2015 at 6:30pm local time.  Pelikan Hubs 2015 was first announced in May and represents Pelikan’s second hosting of this social gathering.  It appears that the company has a few new ideas for this year’s function which promise to add to the enjoyment of the evening.  Even though locations and hub masters have been chosen, online applications will continue to be accepted through July 30th for those interested in participating (a link to register can be found at the bottom of this post).  Attendance is by application only so even if you are unsure, I would urge you to submit an online application to secure your place.  Hubs generally are limited in attendance and range from 7 to 25 participants.  For those of you who cannot attend, don’t forget to follow hashtag #pelikanhubs on social media.

News: Pelikan Hubs 2015

Pelikan Hubs 2015 LogoPelikan announced yesterday that they are going to revisit their Pelikan Hubs project, refreshing it for 2015.  Some of you may recall that this project was first unveiled in 2014 and highlights Pelikan’s emphasis on the community of fountain pen lovers who share a passion for fountain pens and Pelikan’s fine writing instruments.  The original event occurred on June 13, 2014 and saw Pelikan fans across the world gather at a set time without any specific agenda other than to share in the passion of being a fountain pen lover.  Activities for the event were open to the interpretation of the group allowing for some nice variability between venues.  Many great conversations took place along with some awesome show and tell.  Unfortunately, not everyone could participate but a lot of the excitement was shared via social media with the hashtag #pelikanhubs.  Each hub was selected by Pelikan based on a pool of applicants provided that they lived near an eligible city as determined by its population.  Once the cities were selected, a hub master was chosen for each.  This is the person who leads that hub, acts as the point of contact, and finds a centrally located meeting space in the appointed city.  Once that is established it is all about meeting up, making new friends, and enjoying pens with a group of like-minded individuals in a way most of us cannot regularly do.
