As of this evening, we have a first look at Pelikan’s newest fountain pen, the M200 Marbled Red Special Edition. For their initial offering of 2025, Pelikan chose to revisit the Classic line, known for its marbled finishes since the late 1980s. Previous versions include their Green, Blue, and Gray Marbled pens along with unique variants like the Gray-Magenta/Telekom (1994), Brown Marbled (2017), and Petrol Marbled (2021). The last marbled offering was the M200 Gold Marbled in 2019. The Red Marbled fountain pen is set to release in March/April 2025, alongside the Edelstein Apricot Achat.

Pelikan describes this new model as, “a stunning marbled red finishes that captures attention with its vibrant hues and dynamic design. The rich interplay of deep reds and subtle highlights creates an ever-changing visual experience, while the smooth, marble-like texture makes each pen a true work of art.” It includes a black resin cap, section, and piston knob, along with a smoke colored ink view behind the section. The gold plated trim includes one trim ring at the piston knob, a single cap band, a pelican’s beak clip, and a plated crown clip nut. The M200 line is comparable in size to the Souverän M400, measuring 4.92 inches (12.49 cm) in length and weighing 0.49 ounces (13.89 gm). Although it’s part of Pelikan’s entry-level line, the pen utilizes the company’s traditional piston filling mechanism.

The Red Marbled comes with a gold-plated stainless steel nib in either EF, F, M, or B widths. In recent years, Pelikan has all but stopped releasing matching writing instruments such as ballpoints, rollerballs, and pencils with their fountain pens. The Red Marbled reverses that trend, making a K200 ballpoint available in the same finish. Domestic pricing is not yet available, but Appleboom offers the fountain pen for $150.72 which aligns with Pelikan’s other marbled finishes. The ballpoint is listed at $127.03.

Pelikan M200 Marbled Red Fountain Pen and K200 Marbled Red Ballpoint
Pelikan’s Classic line has always been special to me, as it introduced me to the brand. The M200, once an entry-level model, has seen price increases that make it less accessible today. The bold red color stands out amongst the marbled variants and the inclusion of an ink view further enhances the pen’s functionality. Although it appears to be a solid release, it doesn’t offer anything new aside from the color. I love bold hues, so I’ll be adding one to my collection, mainly because I’m a completionist. I understand that there may be some hesitation over its smaller size and lack of innovation. What do you think of the new M200 Marbled Red? Will you be adding it to your flock or are you waiting for something better? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Oooh… I think it’s a beauty and thank goodness it’s not an 800. The 200s are nice pens but a bit small for me and I just picked up the Cream Blue.
They really haven’t brought this specific marbled style to the larger pens. While the M200 is a bit smaller, I love its portability. Really travels well for me.
I like this series. Pelikan are famous for their stripped pattern. But early 100 and 100n have a sort or marbled green. These m200 are their heirs
In both finish and size. I think the M200 often doesn’t get the credit that it deserves for being a great pen.
I love red!
Should be up your alley then!
That’s good news. A model of the M200 series that we cannot resist buying. By the way, let’s not forget M205 Blue Marbled 🙂
Ha! I did say Green, Blue and Gray marbled. While I was referencing the M200 specifically, I didn’t think calling out the M205 Blue Marbled specifically was necessary. Nice to show it some love though as that is a blue finish that is a bit different than its predecessor.
Oh, that’s definitely in my wheelhouse. Reminds me of the very limited red/black M200 (or M205) release–was it in the early 2000’s? There was a blue/black one, too. They were snapped up rather quickly. I’ve always regretted not being able to get the red one.
Hello, I think you are talking about the M201 Mars red that was released in 2015?
Nailed it!
Yes, that’s the one.
You’re referencing the M201 Mars Red from 2015 that was an exclusive release of 100 pens for Fahrney’s. The other pen was the M201 Neptune Blue also released that year, again as a limited edition of 100 pens for Fahrney’s. They were snapped up quick and I have rarely ever seen one make it to the used market.
Neptune blue was also my dream, but I learned from you that it was limited to 100, like Mars red, and I was saddened. Having an m20x with a 100 limit is unimaginable.
I think it was left over stock of a material previously used so only a few of each were able to be made, hence the low numbers and exclusivity. I rarely see them come up for sale on the secondary market.
This actually is beautiful stunning red… at par with petrol version if not better than that….
I agree and believe that this one has a more cohesive look than the Petrol Marbled so, in my eyes, the Marbled Red has the edge between the two.
I like it!
I really do like this pen. But I probably will not be buying one just because I have decided to become more selective with my purchases. There comes a point in one’s collection where it becomes unmanageable and burdensome. I like to use all my pens on a rotational basis and I am pretty much at that point. For every new pen bought, that means that I will have to use my existing pens less necessarily. Now if one comes along that is fantastic and checks every box, sure, I will certainly add it.
I think you demonstrate a great pen wisdom and self restraint that many of us come to after years in the hobby. Personally, I have pushed well past that point because the thrill of the hunt and the quality of the collection which I’ve curated is where I derive the most satisfaction. If I were intent on using each and every pen routinely, I would certainly be of the same mind as you.
That is a wonderful color. The size is okay but I really love that it comes with a matching ballpoint! The price is not bad at all.
It’s nice to see them include a matching ballpoint, especially for what is essentially a lower tier model for them.
The marbled finish isn’t for everyone of course but I like how Pelikan has implemented it as there is some nice variety amongst models with the same finish.
Wow. That is a very classy pen. Again, I’m very glad I do have somewhat small hands and that I really do enjoy writing with smaller pens. The M200 is perfect for me. And that red marbled finish is really sharp. I’m a little bummed that it’s coming out at the same time as the new apricot pen, because I like both colors quite a bit. I’ll probably have to decide which one to buy first and then spring for the other one a little later. Hopefully they’ll both be around at least long enough to do that. I am very much looking forward to seeing them both in person.
Coming out at the same time as the Apricot Achat ink. An Apricot Achat pen is likely to come several months later. My suspicion is that this will be the superior release of the two but I’m always happy to be proven wrong. As you said, seeing them in person will make a world of difference.
Omigoshomigoshomigosh! I love it. I have been looking for a Madrid or the Ruby Red for a while now. This pen will help satisfy me in the short term.
This one might definitely help scratch that itch then. The M620 Madrid and M320/M600 Ruby Red models are definitely worth searching for. Great finishes, all of them.
I think Pelikan has a winner here. This red M200 will join my flock. As mentioned, the M2xxs are very nice, travel well, exhibit excellent balance in the hand, are light, and generally are a pleasure to have around.
I have set a limit on my flock size so that I can still cycle through all my pens within a year, so the more difficult decision is what I will pay forward to make room for this pen…😀
So what’s that, 365 pens then, lol. That’s pretty good head room. Seriously though, once you’ve decided to set that limit, it always begs the hard question as to what has to go to make room. I have certainly struggled with that myself in the past.
I’ve been waiting for years for a red marbled but is the marbling consistent all around or is it a couple stripes alternating with black bands like the Petrol abomination? Even the “new” blue marbled also suffered from that to some extent, compared to the even marbling of the older models.
We will have to wait and see to be sure but I suspect the marbling will be more consistent on this one than on the Petrol-Marbled. My expectation is that this one will be much more in keeping with what the Blue Marbled is.
looks nice, and we did need a red since long time, no demo and no glitter!
I’m very tempted.
Are we sure the crown will be gold plated? Pelikan renderings have sometimes been misleading in the past…
I would hope that is a mistake they won’t make again. I have every expectation that it will be plated and their last several M2xx releases have been so there is that.
